About aldyduque

I am a Christian who is married to a lovely lady and a father to four wonderful children. I work in an NGO that promotes good governance and helps NGOs and churches employ good practices in management in order to achieve their vision and mission. One of my passions is to serve the purpose God has intended for me in this generation and thus the impetus of this blog.

Peacemaker

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” – Matthew 5:9

This passage has several implications. For one, those who come to terms with God through Jesus Christ are peacemakers (or peace seekers) who will inherit the Kingdom of God. This cannot be neglected in interpreting this passage. Other implication is that we, as Christians, should seek and promote peace at all times. The application is simple, if our words or actions will divide a group of people, we should be cautious about it. We should think about it several times: if saying/doing it would divide people; and, if dividing people would be justifiable enough to say or do it.

FOR INSTANCE, and this is very common, we post things that are in favor of the figure we are supporting. Often times, we do this to debunk the accusation of the other group or as a defense for the person we are supporting. And often times we bicker, squabble, accuse falsely, disseminate unreliable and fake news (and this is done by both camps), and curse one another. When we do this, we aggravate the situation to the point of dividing people. If we divide people, we do not promote reconciliation. If we do not promote reconciliation, we do not promote peace. And if we do not promote peace or act as peace-makers, we go against the Word of God or God Himself. To go against God is to fight God and this is a futile exercise. This is not the work of a Christian.

THEREFORE, CAN WE PLEASE STOP SOWING HATE, LIES, AND DIVISION? The principle of sowing and reaping is very clear, and it is telling us that we cannot reap peace by sowing hate, lies, and curses. Instead, let us seriously and intentionally take the role intended for us – to be the salt and light of the earth.

IF WE THINK WE ARE JUST SHARING AN INFORMATION AND NOT PROMOTING HATRED, then so be it. But check first our action against the following:

1. Are we doing it in love?
2. Have we checked the reliability of the information, that is both the source and the content?
3. Are we posting it without any malice but only for the sake of information dissemination?
4. Are we posting it choosing words that will not sow hate, lies, and division?
5. Lastly, do we intend to honor God by sharing the information?

If we answer all the five questions with YES, then we are doing it as a peace-maker. If our answer is NO to even just one of the questions, then let us not do it. Let us not fool ourselves – WE CANNOT HONOR GOD if we miss any of the first four criteria. Remember, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God” (Matthew 5:9).

PS. SHARING this post will help in sowing peace and by doing so we can expect to reap peace.
